It's July 10, which means today would be the birthday of physicist and inventor Nikola Tesla. In today's episode, we briefly recall his life and work, but we also recall the day when Michael Scott left Apple after a series of difficult problems.

Birth of Nikola Tesla (1856)

On July 10, 1856, Nikola Tesla was born in Smiljan, Croatia. This inventor, physicist and designer of electrical devices and machines went down in history, for example, as the inventor of the asynchronous motor, the Tesla transformer, the Tesla turbine or one of the pioneers of wireless communication. Tesla worked for many years in the United States, where in 1886 he founded the company Tesla Electric Light & Manufacturing. Throughout his life he struggled with financial problems and also had conflicts with other inventors. He died in January 1943 at the New Yorker Hotel, his papers were later seized by the FBI.

Michael Scott Leaves Apple (1981)

In early 1981, the then CEO of Apple, Michael Scott, acknowledged that the company was indeed not doing well and that the company was facing significant financial difficulties. Following this discovery, he decided to lay off forty employees, including half of the team responsible for the research and development of the Apple II computer. But he also felt the consequences of this step, and on July 10 of the same year he resigned from his post, saying that it was a "learning experience" for him.
