Dan Bricklin was born (1951)

On July 16, 1951, Dan Bricklin was born in Philadelphia. This American inventor and programmer is best known as one of the inventors of the VisiCalc spreadsheet in 1979. Bricklin studied electrical engineering and computer science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and business at Harvard. In addition to the VisiCalc software for the Apple II, he worked on the development of a lot of other software, such as Note Taker HD for Apple's iPad.

Amazon launches online book store (1995)

In July 1995, Amazon started selling books online. Jeff Bezos founded the company in July 1994, in 1998 its range expanded to also sell music and videos. Over time, Amazon's scope expanded more and more and the range of services offered increased, which in 2002 was expanded to include the Amazon Web Services (AWS) platform.
