Today we commemorate the anniversary of the birth of the famous scientist and physicist Stephen Hawking. Born on January 8, 1942, Hawking showed an intense interest in mathematics and physics from a young age. During his scientific career, he received many prestigious awards and wrote numerous publications.

Stephen Hawking was born (1942)

On January 8, 1942, Stephen William Hawking was born in Oxford. Hawking attended Byron House Primary School, successively also attended St Albans High, Radlett and St Albans Grammar School, which he graduated with slightly above average grades. During his studies, Hawking invented board games, built remote-controlled models of airplanes and ships, and at the end of his studies he focused intensively on mathematics and physics. In 1958 he built a simple computer called LUCE (Logical Uniselector Computing Engine). During his studies, Hawking received a scholarship to Oxford, where he decided to study physics and chemistry. Hawking did admirably well in his studies, and in October 1962 he entered Trinity Hall, Cambridge University.

At Cambridge, Hawking served as director of research at the Center for Theoretical Cosmology, his scientific activities included collaboration with Roger Penrose on gravitational singularity theorems in general relativity and the theoretical prediction of thermal radiation emitted by black holes, known as Hawking radiation. Over the course of his scientific career, Hawking would be inducted into the Royal Society, become a life member of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences, and receive, among other things, the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Stephen Hawking has a number of scientific and popular science publications to his credit, his A Brief History of Time was the Sunday Times bestseller for 237 weeks. Stephen Hawking died on March 14, 2018 at the age of 76 from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
