John Sculley left the leadership position at Apple on June 18, 1993 after ten years. But it was not a purely voluntary departure - Sculley was asked to resign by the company's board of directors after Apple's shares experienced a critical fall in 1993. Michael Spindler took over the role of Apple CEO from John Sculley.

John Sculley joined the Apple staff in May 1983. He was brought to the company directly by Steve Jobs himself, who at the time asked him the now legendary suggestive question, whether he wanted to sell sweetened water for the rest of his life, or whether he would rather help change the world Before joining Apple, John Sculley worked at Pepsi. Steve Jobs and John Sculley were originally supposed to be colleagues working side by side, but soon a certain tension began to rise between the two men. Disagreements in the company eventually led to the fact that Steve Jobs was forced to leave it completely in 1985.

John Scully's leadership of Apple was quite successful at first. The personal computer market segment was growing rapidly, and Sculley was determined to make an indelible mark on computing history. During his ten-year tenure at Apple, he managed to increase sales from the original 800 million dollars to a respectable 8 billion. Under his leadership, a number of great products were also created - for example, the PowerBook 100. Sculley also oversaw the development of the Apple Newton PDA. So what led to Sculley's departure? He himself wanted to move back to the East Coast and considered applying for the role of CEO of IBM. He was also active in politics and supported Bill Clinton's presidential campaign. From the point of view of Apple's board of directors, he was too intensively involved in the development of Newton, at a time when the company had to face increasing competition. After Scully's departure, Michael Spindler took over the management of the company, while Sculley served as a member of the board of directors until October 1993. He was leaving with a "golden parachute" of $10 million.
