Among other things, the eighth of June is also associated with the presentation of the iPhone 3GS, which of course we cannot miss in today's part of our series on the history of technology. We will recall its launch for sale, which took place a little later, in the next part of this series. In addition to the presentation of the iPhone 3GS, today we will also talk about, for example, the creation of United Online.

Apple introduces the iPhone 3GS (2009)

On June 8, 2009, Apple presented its new smartphone, the iPhone 3GS, at the WWDC conference. This model was the successor to the iPhone 3G and at the same time represented the third generation of smartphones produced by the Cupertino company. Sales of this model began ten days later. When presenting the new iPhone, Phil Schiller said, among other things, that the letter "S" in the name should symbolize speed. The iPhone 3GS featured improved performance, featuring a 3MP camera with better resolution and video recording capabilities. Other features included, for example, voice control. The successor to the iPhone 3GS was the iPhone 2010 in 4, the model was sold until September 2012, when the company introduced its iPhone 5.

The Rise of United Online (2001)

On June 8, 2001, overseas Internet Service Providers NetZero and Juno Online Services announced that they were merging into an independent platform called United Online. The newly formed company was intended to compete with network service provider America OnLine (AOL). The company originally provided its customers with a dial-up Internet connection, since its inception it has gradually acquired various entities, such as Classmate Online, MyPoints or FTD Group. The company is based in Woodland Hills, California and continues to provide its customers with Internet services and products of various kinds. In 2016, it was bought by Riley Financial for $170 million.
