In one of past episodes In our series on historical events in technology, we recalled, among other things, the press conference at which Apple announced its plans to open its first brick-and-mortar retail stores. In today's episode, we will remember their commissioning, but we will also remember the premiere of Episode I of Star Wars.

Here Comes Episode I. (1999)

On May 19, 1999, fans of the Star Wars saga finally got - sixteen years after the arrival of Episode VI - Return of the Jedi director George Lucas came with Episode I, which was subtitled The Phantom Menace. The story of the young Anakin Skywalker earned the creators more than 924 million dollars worldwide and became one of the highest-grossing films of 1999. The film was met with rather mixed reactions, but in terms of technical processing, Episode I was mostly praised.

 

The first Apple Store opens (2001)

May 19, 2001 was of great importance to Apple fans and customers. On that day, the first brick-and-mortar Apple Story opened its doors. These were a store in Tysons Corner Center in McLean, Virginia and a store in Glendale, California. Shortly before the doors of the store opened to the public, Steve Jobs showed the premises of the store to the press. During the first weekend, both stores welcomed 7700 customers and sold a total of 599 dollars worth of goods.
