Unfortunately, the history of technology also includes unpleasant events. One such is the crash of Apollo 13, which occurred in the first half of April 1970, and which we will recall in our return to the past today. In its second part, we recall the Metallica vs. Napster.

The Crash of Apollo 13 (1970)

On April 13, 1970, during the flight of Apollo 13, one of its oxygen tanks exploded and subsequently seriously damaged the service module. Apollo 13 was the seventh manned flight of the Apollo space program. Unfortunately, the aforementioned explosion prevented Apollo from completing its mission, which was the third landing of a human crew on the surface of the moon, and the lives of its crew members were also endangered. Fortunately, the personnel at the control center in Houston developed working emergency scenarios, with the help of which it was possible to transport the crew safely back to Earth. The mentioned events later became the inspiration for the movie Apollo 13 starring Tom Hanks.

metallica vs. Napster (2000)

On April 13, 200, the thrash metal group Metallica decided to sue the popular P2P platform Napster, which it accused in its lawsuit of copyright infringement and even blackmail. At that time, Napster also became a thorn in the side of many other musicians, and the rapper Dr. Dre. A lawsuit by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) didn't take long either. The court ruled in favor of the plaintiff for obvious reasons, and Napster eventually had to cease operations. However, the popularity of Napster heralded a gradual transition from buying physical music carriers to acquiring music digitally.
