In today's part of our serial return to the past, we will remember, among other things, the founding of the supercomputer company Control Data Corporation. But we will also remember the correction of the DNS error according to Kaminsky or the last mission of the space shuttle Atlantis.

Founding of Control Data Corporation (1957)

On July 8, 1957, the supercomputer company Control Data Corporation was founded. The CDC was one of the first swallows in this field, and was primarily concerned with building high-performance supercomputers. For example, one of the employees of Control Data Corporation was Seymour Cray, who in the XNUMXs developed the fastest computers in the world at the time. Cray left the CDC in the early XNUMXs and started his own company called Cray Research.

Fixing a DNS error by Kaminsky (2008)

A bug in DNS addressing was discovered in 2007 by a developer named Dan Kaminsky. The bug was so serious that security experts kept it a secret until an effective fix could be found. In late March, Kaminsky met with sixteen other developers at Microsoft headquarters, where they worked hard to perfect the corresponding patch, which was officially released on July 8, 2008.
