On July 22, 1989, the US secret services managed to make major breakthroughs in the investigation of hacker circles at the time. As part of the crackdown, three members of a group called the Legion of Doom were arrested, accused of hacking the Bell South telephone network in 1988. Franklin Darden, Adam Grant and Robert Riggs were sentenced to serve time in a federal prison.
