By the end of January already founder of the Seznam.cz portal, Ivo Lukačovič, decided to become a MacOS user. He chose a unibody Macbook Pro 15″ as his first Mac computer. But this is not Ivo Lukačovič's first experience with Apple products, which is evident from his blog: "I've had an iPhone in my pocket for several years, I've also had an Apple Cinema display on my desk in Seznam and at home for several years, so now I just need to replace the noisy and unreliable thing under the desk."
I was curious if Ivo would like his first Mac or reject it after a week or so. But it produced exactly the effect that we Hungarians know well. Ivo divided work with computers into three groups:
- The computer is doing something other than you want it to
- The computer does what you want, but it also does something else in the background, so it bothers you at work
- The computer does what you want it to do, and if it's doing something else in the background, you don't know about it
And where would Ivo classify MacOS?
Apple's OS X is the first and only desktop operating system I've come across that falls into that third category.
It's probably unspeakable to Windows users what Apple's operating system excels at. I would say that in everything. These are not cosmetic details, but really essential things that make working with a computer efficient and pleasant.
Thanks for the (again nice) article!
Exactly. When I sit down at a PC with win now, I immediately find that I am missing an awful lot of useful and essential things that prolong my work.
Wouldn't it be a little more specific? On the other hand, I have the feeling that Apple is turning me into a dumb sheep (see the necessity of a jailbreak to make the undoubtedly fantastic hardware reasonably usable). I don't want to start a flame, I'm interested in specific information.
I agree with Ive. Timpad and appleCZkarema :-)
Do you know how frustrating it is to have Win at work and OSX at home??
Only when I turn on the computer - before I get to the login screen... that's how long it takes.
Enter user name and password - and I'm going to have a coffee.
I come back and the PC is still crunching (I don't know what it's doing, but it's crunching) and then Outlook, IE, and 1 excel 1.5MB table
a
I'LL FINISH MY COFFEE ;-)
and everything is windowed – and still crunching..:-)))
so so :-)
I have one more question about transferring the movie to the iPhone via itunes. I tried a 3-minute clip that didn't work. It didn't transfer the Mamma Mia movie. Isn't there a limit to the size or length of the video?? And can I put the video on the iPhone in a different way than via iTunes?? Thanks
Yes it is, I agree. I switched at fifty and I only regret that I didn't decide earlier. But I have one negative experience – I decided to drag the application icon from the dock to the desktop. The app icon exploded, beautifully, and it was all over the app. No warning, just a punishment for not having studied the manual properly. And since Text Edit doesn't come separately, it took a lot of work to install it when I didn't want to reinstall everything.
I think fresh switchers should be banned from blogging about feelings. Then they produce such crap as in the quote. As long as your head is in the haze of a fresh switch, Mac OS seems perfect to you. If you're still dealing with the same problems after a few years, it just sucks.
That's not quite true... Some time ago I switched from MacOs to Windows out of necessity and I didn't find any enthusiasm of a fresh switcher... On the contrary, I quickly returned to MacOS where I really don't have to solve any problems. I also use Wins.. but only for upgrading and archiving data from the mobile phone...
