The iPhone 8 Plus has been a relative success in the United States. During the second quarter of this year, it was the best-selling Apple smartphone here. This was reported in a report prepared by Consumer Intelligence Research Partners.

The trio of Apple's latest smartphones, the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and the high-end iPhone X, account for 54% of all iPhone sales in the United States for the quarter. The iPhone 8 took a bite of 13% of the pie, the iPhone 8 Plus a respectable 24% and the iPhone X has a 17% share of sales. But even older models do not lose their popularity. The top five of the iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, small iPhone SE, iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus account for 46% of sales.

The second quarter of last year was dominated by the "sevens": iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus accounted for more than 80% of all sales. Josh Lowitz, partner and co-founder of Consumer Intelligence Research Partners, describes the second quarter as more of a quieter period, and finds the current situation interesting - partly because older models have retained their popularity.

"The latest models, the iPhone 8, 8 Plus and X, account for slightly more than half of sales, while the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus accounted for over 80% of sales last year,” states Lowitz. “Last quarter, iPhone 6S, iPhone 6S Plus and iPhone SE accounted for more than 20% of sales, which is roughly the same as last year's June quarter. It looks like the newer models were a bit overpowered by the older iPhones.” Lowitz went on to say that he expects the average sales price to increase next year.

The iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone 8 accounted for a total of 37% of orders, according to CIRP data, significantly surpassing orders for the iPhone X. This fact is partly due to the unusually high price of the high-end model, which starts at $999 in the United States.

Due to the popularity of "more affordable" models, according to analysts, Apple plans to offer customers a more affordable option this year as well. This could be an iPhone with a 6,1-inch LCD display, which would be sold alongside the more expensive 5,8-inch and 6,5-inch models.

As for iPads, the best-selling model continues to be the "low-cost" variant of the Apple tablet, which was purchased by 31% of customers during the quarter. However, the iPad Pro also maintains its popularity, whose 10,5-inch and 12,9-inch variants account for 40% of sales.

On the one hand, the data of Consumer Intelligence Reports represent an interesting insight into the thinking of overseas consumers, but it is also necessary to keep in mind that these are data resulting from questionnaires in which five hundred customers who bought any of the apple products in the second quarter took part .
