Commercial message: The words of the Minister of Industry and Trade, Marta Nováková, swept through the Czech Republic like an avalanche. She indicated to the Czechs that they are responsible for the expensive mobile data. The reason is that people prefer wi-fi connection, which is free, to mobile data, which is enormously expensive in our country. What did the minister mean by her statement and how much does data cost abroad?

An unfortunate statement was made in the Czech TV program 168 hours, which neither the deputies led by the prime minister nor the citizens understand. Marta Nováková let it be known that the Czechs themselves are to blame for the expensive data. Why? The problem is that we prefer free wi-fi networks to internet connection via data.

Once we stop avoiding expensive mobile internet and we will actively use it, mobile operators will make it cheaper. At least that's how the Minister of Industry and Trade sees it. After a great wave of criticism, Marta Nováková objected that her statement was senselessly taken out of context. Whether it was intended one way or another, let's take a look at the prices of mobile data in the Czech Republic and abroad.

How much and for how much do domestic operators offer data?

U Vodafone the cheapest mobile tariff with internet costs CZK 477, the customer gets 500 free minutes and 1,5 GB of data for this price. If you wish inflated data package, you would pay CZK 20 per month for 1 GB.

Unlimited tariffs u O2 they start at 499 CZK, but what you definitely won't get with such a flat rate is unlimited data. For CZK 499, you can look forward to a 500MB data package, 6 GB costs CZK 849, for 12 GB you pay CZK 1, and the operator offers a maximum of 199 GB of data at a price of CZK 60.

It closes the big three mobile operators in the Czech Republic T-Mobile. And even in this case, don't expect any miracles. Prices are similar to previous competitors. The basic tariff with 500 MB of data costs CZK 499, you get 4 GB for CZK 799, 16 GB costs CZK 1 and you pay CZK 60 for 2 GB.There is no fierce competition on the Czech mobile market.

Unlimited data for 300 CZK? Yes, this is also possible abroad

Domestic operators offer prices that we are already used to some Fridays, but abroad it is a different coffee. Mobile tariffs offers dozens of data per packet. For example Italians can use unlimited calls and SMS and 30 GB of data for just 6 euros, which translates to roughly CZK 160.

But we don't have to go far for cheap mobile data. Polish T-Mobile offers a tariff with unlimited data for 50 zlotys, which is about 300 CZK. Compared to Czech prices, it is no wonder that the Czech Republic has the most expensive data in Europe. They also date cheaper in Belgium, Germany, Spain, Slovakia and Malta. The cheapest mobile internet is found in Finland, Latvia, Austria, Denmark and Lithuania. On average, one GB of data in Europe costs $6,5.
