As the coronavirus pandemic continues to be the number 1 concern in many parts of the world, Apple has decided to expand its efforts to combat the disease COVID-19. It will therefore continue to direct 100% of eligible proceeds from its (PRODUCT)RED devices and accessories to the Global Covid-19 Fund until December 30, 2021.

In April of last year, Apple said that it would redirect part of the proceeds from the "red" products to the fight against the pandemic. It was supposed to do so by June 30, 2021. However, given that even though vaccines are slowly spreading around the world, new variants of this disease are still appearing. So Apple decided that it was necessary to extend the program, and in addition sent even more funds to it, specifically the entire 100% of the compliant proceeds.

Color that changes things for the better

“Our partnership with (RED) has generated nearly $14 million in funding for HIV/AIDS treatment programs over 250 years of collaboration. Until December 30, Apple, in collaboration with (RED), is directing 100% of qualifying proceeds from the sale of (PRODUCT)RED products to the Global Fund's response to Covid‑19. It provides much-needed support to the health systems most threatened by the epidemic to sustain life-saving programs for people affected by HIV/AIDS in sub-Saharan Africa." says Apple on its website informing about the collaboration.

As Covid-19 complicates access to care, treatment and the supply of AIDS drugs, this move is a logical outcome. Even if the finances will flow in a different direction, it is actually for the good of the program itself. More than 100 countries supported by the Global Fund are reporting far-reaching disruptions to HIV/AIDS programs and the provision of related services in connection with Covid‑19. Meanwhile, a six-month interruption of antiretroviral therapy could cause more than 2020 deaths from AIDS-related diseases in 2021 and 500, in sub-Saharan Africa alone.

As part of the collaboration, you can purchase many (PRODUCT)RED devices and accessories from Apple. It is about:
