Not so long ago, Tim Cook proudly presented how many users have switched from Android to iOS. At the same time, he stated that these "switchers" are one of the significant driving forces behind iPhone sales. But a recent quarterly survey showed that users are significantly more loyal to Android. How does Apple fare in the survey?

According to the latest Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP) survey, user loyalty to iOS stood at a respectable 89%. This is data for the period from July to September this year. Loyalty over the same period for Android users was 92%. In its quarterly questionnaire, CIRP interviewed XNUMX participants and measured loyalty by the percentage of users who, when changing their phone in the past year, remained loyal to their operating system.

User loyalty to the Android operating system ranged between 2016% and 2018% between 89 and 92, while iOS was 85% to 89% over the same period. The latest results represent a great success for both platforms, which are able to find their target audience in the growing smartphone market. CIRP's Mike Levin said loyalty for both platforms has risen to unprecedented levels over the past two years. According to Levin, over the past three years, roughly 90% of users in the United States stay loyal to the same operating system when they buy a new smartphone.

In the last few quarters, Apple has begun to focus more on users who would switch to Apple from Android. According to a June CIRP analysis, less than 20% of new iPhone users switched to the Cupertino company from Android, but many people were also considering switching to Apple, with less expensive models such as the iPhone SE being their entry device into the Apple ecosystem.

CIRP co-founder Josh Lowitz recalls that many analysts predicted an increase in the switch from Android to iOS. According to him, this is of course possible, but it will rather be a long-distance run. "These analyzes are based on surveys of what consumers are up to, which, as we well know, is a highly subjective matter," points out. According to Mike Levin, Android can boast a higher level of loyalty, but Apple managed to significantly narrow the initial gap between the two platforms. According to Levin, both rivals therefore achieved the same, very high level of loyalty.
