When the first iPad from Apple saw the light of day, it was not very clear whether it would even be a promising and successful product. At the end of March 2010, however, the first reviews began to appear in the media, from which it was more than clear that the apple tablet would be a definite hit.

The majority of reviewers clearly agreed on several points - the iPad lacked Flash technology support, a USB connector and multitasking functions. Nevertheless, the news from the workshop of the Cupertino company excited everyone, and the newspaper USA Today wrote that "the first iPad is a clear winner". The iPad was part of the last significant category of new products from Apple, created under the supervision of Steve Jobs. During his second tenure at Apple, he oversaw, among other things, the launch of hits such as the iPod, the iPhone, or the iTunes Music Store service. The first iPad was unveiled on January 27, 2010. Except for a few rare (and carefully selected) public appearances, however, the world didn't learn much about how well the tablet worked until the first reviews began to appear. Just like today, Apple then carefully controlled which media got the first iPad. The editors of The New York Times, USA Today or the Chicago Sun-Times have received review pieces, for example.

The verdicts of these few early reviewers turned out to be as positive as most potential owners had hoped. The New York Times wrote enthusiastically that everyone must fall in love with the new iPad. Walt Mossberg of All Things D called the iPad "a whole new kind of computer" and even admitted that it almost made him lose interest in using his laptop. Andy Inhatko of the Chicago Sun-Times waxed lyrical about how the iPad "filled a gap that's been in the market for some time."

However, most of the first reviewers also agreed that the iPad cannot fully replace a laptop, and that it is used more for content consumption than for creation. In addition to reviewers, the new iPad naturally also excited regular users. During the first year, approximately 25 million iPads were sold, which made the Apple tablet the most successful new product category launched by Apple.
