For some time now, we have also been able to use wireless charging with iPhones. For a slightly shorter time, iPhones also offer MagSafe charging technology. But at the time when the first iPhones with wireless charging appeared, it seemed that we would be charging our Apple smartphones with the help of an AirPower wireless charging pad. But in the end it didn't happen. What was the AirPower journey like from the introduction to the promises to the final storage on the ice?

The AirPower pad for wireless charging was officially presented at the autumn Apple Keynote on September 12, 2017. The novelty was supposed to be used to charge the new iPhone X, iPhone 8 or the new second-generation AirPods case, which had the function of wireless charging. We all certainly remember the form of the AirPower pad as Apple introduced it in September 2017. The pad was oblong in shape, white in color, and featured a simple, minimalist, elegant design typical of Apple. Enthusiastic users waited in vain for the opportunity to purchase AirPower.

The arrival of the AirPower pad we didn't even get to see wireless charging until the following year, and in addition, Apple gradually and completely quietly removed practically all mention of this upcoming novelty from its website. There was talk of a number of different factors allegedly preventing AirPower from officially going on sale. According to the available reports, it was supposed to be, for example, problems with excessive overheating of the device, communication between devices, and a number of other problems. In turn, some sources mentioned that the AirPower allegedly included two types of wireless charging coils so that the Apple Watch could also be charged through it. This was supposed to be one of the other reasons for the constant delay of the release of AirPower.

However, rumors about the possible future arrival of AirPower did not die down for some time. The mention of this accessory was found, for example, on the packaging of some products, some media even reported at the beginning of 2019 that it should only be a delay in the start of sales, but that we will see AirPower. It didn't take long, however, for Apple to dispel any hopes that AirPower would actually arrive in its official statement. Dan Riccio at the end of March 2019 in this statement, he stated that after all the efforts made so far, Apple has come to the conclusion that AirPower is not capable of reaching the high standards that the company upholds, and therefore it is better to put the whole project on hold for good. It was the first time ever that Apple decided to discontinue a product that had been officially announced but not yet released.

Although on the Internet in August of this year footage of the alleged AirPower pad has surfaced, but with its arrival in the form in which Apple presented it years ago, we can probably say goodbye for good.
