Even before the popularity of various music and video streaming services for regular monthly subscriptions, users had to buy media content individually on the Internet (or download it illegally, but that's another story). One of the legal ways to buy your favorite song or album was through the online iTunes Store.

The success of Apple's virtual store with media content is evidenced, among other things, by the fact that the iTunes Store reached twenty-five million downloads in December 2003. Given the time of year this important milestone occurred, it probably won't surprise anyone that the jubilee song was "Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!” by Frank Sinatra.

The iTunes Music Store had been in operation for less than eight months when it reached this milestone. Steve Jobs called the iTunes Music Store "undoubtedly the most successful online music store" in an official statement. "Music fans buy and download nearly 1,5 million songs a week from the iTunes Music Store, making 75 million songs a year," Jobs specified at the time.

In July of the following year, Apple managed to sell their 7 millionth song in a row through the iTunes Music Store - this time it was Somersault (Dangermouse remix) by Zero XNUMX. The user who downloaded the song was Kevin Britten from Hays, Kansas. Currently, the number of songs downloaded from the iTunes Music Store is in the order of tens of billions. But this number will most likely not increase dramatically in the future - companies, artists and users themselves have been preferring streaming services such as Apple Music or Spotify for some time now.

In 2003, the iTunes Music Store offered its customers a really rich catalog of music tracks, including more than 400 items from the five most important music companies and more than two hundred independent music labels. Each of these songs could be purchased for less than one dollar. The iTunes Music Store was also very popular gift cards - in October 2003, Apple reached over one million dollars worth of gift cards sold.
