Before the end of June 2008, Apple began sending emails to app developers notifying them of the App Store and inviting them to place their software in the virtual storefronts of Apple's online iPhone app store.

Developers from all over the world welcomed this news with unequivocal enthusiasm. Almost immediately, they began submitting their apps to Apple for approval, and what could be called an App Store gold rush began, with some exaggeration. A lot of App Store developers have indeed made a decent fortune over time.

The news that Apple would accept applications from third-party developers was met with an overwhelmingly positive response. The company officially revealed its intention on March 6, 2008, when it presented its iPhone SDK, offering developers the necessary tools to create software for the iPhone. As many of you probably know, the launch of the App Store was preceded by considerable conjecture - the idea of an online store with third-party applications was originallyagreed Steve Jobs himself. He worried that the App Store could be flooded with low-quality or malicious software over which Apple would have little control. Phil Schiller and board member Art Levinson, who did not want the iPhone to be a strictly closed platform, were instrumental in changing Jobs' opinion.

Developers have been building iPhone apps on Mac using the latest version of Xcode software. On June 26, 2008, Apple began accepting applications for approval. It encouraged developers to download the eighth beta version of the iPhone OS operating system, and developers used the latest version of Xcode software on a Mac to create software. In an email to developers, Apple informed that the final version of iPhone OS 2.0 is expected to be released on July 11, along with the release of the iPhone 3G. When the App Store was officially launched in July 2008, it offered 500 third-party applications. Roughly 25% of them were completely free, and within the first seventy-two hours of its launch, the App Store had a respectable 10 million downloads.
