If you use, or have ever used, the Google Chrome browser, you have probably registered the special incognito mode that this browser has. This is nothing unusual, the vast majority of Internet browsers offer a similar function. Google is going to go one step further in the field of anonymization and is testing a kind of anonymous mode on the YouTube platform.

Incognito mode in browsers is ideal in cases where you want to move around the web at least to some extent without leaving large traces. Browsers in anonymous mode do not save browsing history, do not save cookies, and at the same time constantly clean the cache, so no one will know about your activity on the computer (of course, your provider has a different opinion on this, but this article is not about that). Now something very similar is also being prepared for the YouTube platform, or its mobile application.

In practice, the behavior of the incognito mode in the YouTube app should be almost identical to that of the Chrome browser. After turning on this mode, the user will be temporarily logged out (if he was logged in until then), the application will not record and store activity data, viewed videos will not be reflected in your personalized feed, etc. After ending this mode, all information from the entire period will be anonymous browsing removed. As with the browser, this mode does not serve as a complete cover for your activities. ISPs and the network you're connected to can still trace your sessions. However, nothing will be traceable in the device itself. Anonymous mode for YouTube is currently being tested and we can expect it to appear in the regular public version in one of the upcoming updates.
