Developer Nicklas Nygren already has several unconventional projects to his credit. Under the name of the studio Nifflas, he has already shown his skills to the world in the climbing canape Knytt or the head-spinning NightSky. This time he returns to the platform genre, but his new effort Ynglet tries to be at least one thing special. The novelty is perhaps the only platformer in which you won't find platformers. So how can Ynglet work as such a game?

In the game, you take on the role of a microscopic organism trying to survive on a planet that has been hit by a cosmic disaster. After the comet falls, there are those convenient water tanks, so in the microworld you have to jump from one drop to another to find your new home. The platform replacement works so that in each of the drops you can find peace where you don't have to worry about falling into an inhospitable environment. However, you have to move willy-nilly.

As a microscopic organism, you then have a number of different abilities to overcome the path between the drops. The most basic is a simple build-up of speed and a well-directed jump. However, within the first few levels, Ynglet starts introducing more interesting mechanics. One of them is acceleration in the air, which will slow down time and allow you to maneuver more precisely. Over time, the game will also feature multicolored drops that change your trajectory or allow you to stay inside only by using special moves. With the sounds of the dynamic soundtrack, you will sometimes grind your teeth over the difficulty of some levels. Fortunately, Ynglet also presents a creative position saving system where you make your own checkpoints from individual drops. You can finish the stylish non-platform game in a few hours.
