Apple introduced the AirPower wireless charging pad in September 2017. However, it kept delaying its launch until it completely canceled development. The main culprit was overheating, which he was unable to eliminate even two years after it was introduced to the public. Now there's a solution from Xiaomi - it can charge three devices at the same time, no matter where you put them. And apparently it works.

When introducing this accessory, Xiaomi said that when Apple stopped working on its solution, they started. In connection with the American brand, the Chinese one even believes so much that it presented its product with two phones and one earphone with a wireless charging case. And one of the phones was an iPhone. Apple's AirPower conceived as one device to charge all of its devices that enable wireless charging, i.e. iPhone, Apple Watch and headphones AirPods (2nd generation and above). Of course, we never found out how it would be with competing devices.

AirPower is behind us, the potential of MagSafe ahead

AirPower it was supposed to be available during 2018. When it was introduced, Apple was not more specific, which could indicate certain problems that eventually did come. However, since 2019, rumors have started to surface that this accessory will actually come. In iOS 12.2, codes even appeared on pages Apple more and more photos of products being charged through this device. Approved patents for the technologies used were also published. But even then, according to Apple's senior vice president of hardware engineering, Dan Riccio, the AirPower charging pad didn't meet the company's high standards. What does it mean? That it is better to cut a product than to have it only work half way.

However, Apple threw history behind and came up with the revival of the magic phrase MagSafe, which he used in MacBooks and newly brought it together with the iPhone 12. So they see the future in magnets. Although it is not clear how he would implement them for example into AirPods, they work fairly well on iPhones. In addition, a double charger MagSafe Duo, which charges iPhone and Apple Watch and costs a "people's" CZK 3, it works as it should. But why a giant like Apple could not debug such a seemingly simple device as a charger remains a mystery. Anyway, it looks like Xiaomi has succeeded.

29 coils, 20 W, 2 CZK

It consists of 19 charging coils that overlap each other, allowing you to charge the device when placed, regardless of which way you position it with its back to the mat. The only condition for proper charging is support for Qi, i.e. the standard for wireless charging using electrical induction. Of course, this is offered not only by iPhones but also by AirPods, which are therefore fully compatible with the Chinese company's solution.

Xiaomi 1

If the placed device allows it, the pad can provide it with a charging power of up to 20 watts. This is quite unique, although iPhone owners won't make any use of it because they simply aren't phones Apple capable. However, if you would like to charge all three 20W devices placed on the mat, you must of course also use the corresponding 60W adapter with a USB-C connector.

Although the new Xiaomi looks like AirPower the charger looked like, it has one fundamental advantage, but also a disadvantage. It seems to work, which was demonstrated when she was introduced to the world. And it looks like it won't offer any smart features like showing the charging process and the other two devices, which it just had AirPower to be able to… but AirPower is not here and will not be. In addition, the solution from Xiaomi is practically cheap. Converted from Chinese yuan should his charger have namely converted to come out at a "measly" 2 CZK. It is not yet known whether it will be available in our distribution as well. If so, other fees such as VAT, extended warranty, etc. must be added to the price.
