Only one single day and a few hours separate us from this year's first Apple conference called WWDC20. Unfortunately, due to the coronavirus situation, the entire conference will only take place online. But this is not such a problem for most of us, since none of us probably received an official invitation to this developer conference in previous years. So nothing changes for us - as every year, of course, this year we will offer you a live transcript of the entire conference so that people who do not speak English can enjoy it. It is already a tradition that at the WWDC conference we will see the introduction of new operating systems, which developers can download practically immediately after the end. This year it's iOS and iPadOS 14, macOS 10.16, tvOS 14 and watchOS 7. Let's take a look together in this article at what we expect from iOS (and of course iPadOS) 14.

Stable system

Information leaked to the surface in recent weeks that Apple should allegedly choose a different development path for the new iOS and iPadOS operating system compared to previous versions. In recent years, if you installed a new version of the operating system immediately after its public release, then you were probably dissatisfied - these versions often contained a lot of errors and bugs, and in addition, the battery of the device only lasted a few hours on them. After that, Apple worked on the fixes for several more versions, and users often only got to a reliable system after several long months. However, this should change with the arrival of iOS and iPadOS 14. Apple should adopt a different approach to development, which should guarantee stable and trouble-free operation even from the initial versions. So let's hope these aren't just shouts in the dark. Personally, I would be happy if Apple introduced a new system that would offer a minimum of new features, but would fix all the bugs and errors found in the current system.

New features

Even though I would prefer a minimum of news, it is practically clear that Apple will not release the same system twice in a row. The fact that at least some news will appear in iOS and iPadOS 14 is absolutely clear. Even in this case, it would be ideal for Apple to perfect them. In iOS 13, we witnessed that the Californian giant added some new features, but some of them did not work at all as expected. Many functions did not reach 100% functionality until later versions, which is definitely not ideal. Hopefully, Apple will think in this direction as well, and in its applications and new functions will significantly work on functionality in the first versions. No one wants to wait months for features to go live.

iOS 14 concept:

Enhancement of existing applications

I would appreciate it if Apple would add new features to their apps. Recently, the jailbreak has become popular again, thanks to which users can add countless great functions to the system. Jailbreak has been with us for several long years and it can be said that Apple has been inspired by it in many cases. Jailbreak often offered great features even before Apple was able to integrate them into its systems. In iOS 13, for example, we saw a dark mode, which jailbreak supporters have been able to enjoy for several years. Nothing has changed even in the current situation, where there are countless great tweaks within the jailbreak that you get so used to that the system will feel completely bare without them. In general, I would also like to see more openness of the system - for example, the possibility of downloading various functions that could in some way affect the appearance or function of the entire system. In this case, many of you are probably thinking that I should switch to Android, but I don't see why.

As for other improvements, I would really appreciate improvements to Shortcuts. Currently, compared to the competition, Shortcuts, or automation, are quite limited, i.e. for ordinary users. In order to start an automation, in many cases you still have to confirm it before executing it. This is of course a security feature, but Apple really overdoes it from time to time. It would be nice if Apple added new options to Shortcuts (not just the Automations section) that would actually work as automations and not as something you still have to confirm before executing.

Legacy devices and their equality

In addition to the new form of iOS and iPadOS 14 development, it is rumored that all devices currently running iOS and iPad OS 13 should receive these systems. Whether this is really true or whether it is a myth, we will find out when tomorrow. It would definitely be nice though - the older devices are still very powerful and should be able to handle the new systems. But I'm a little sad that Apple tries to add certain functions only to the latest devices. In this case, I can mention, for example, the Camera application, which is redesigned on the iPhone 11 and 11 Pro (Max) and offers many more functions than on older devices. And it must be noted that in this case it is definitely not a hardware limitation, but only a software one. Maybe Apple will wise up and add "new" features to devices regardless of their age.
