If you follow our magazine regularly, then you certainly did not miss the information that this year's upcoming iPhone 12 does not include the classic wired EarPods in the package. Later, additional information appeared, which states that, in addition to the headphones, Apple decided not to include a classic charger in the package this year. Although this information may seem shocking and there will be people who immediately criticize the Apple company for this step, it is necessary to think about the whole situation. In the end, you will find out that this is not a terrible thing, and that, on the contrary, other smartphone manufacturers should take an example from Apple. Let's look together at 6 reasons why not packing headphones and a charger with Apple's new iPhones is a good move.
Effect on the environment
Apple will deliver hundreds of millions of iPhones to its customers in one year. But have you ever thought about what else you get besides an iPhone? In the case of a box, every centimeter or gram of material means a thousand kilometers or a hundred tons of extra material in the case of a hundred million boxes, which has a huge impact on the environment. Even though the box is made of recycled paper and plastic, it is still an extra burden. But it doesn't stop at the box - the current 5W charger from the iPhone weighs 23 grams and the EarPods another 12 grams, which is 35 grams of material in a single package. If Apple were to eliminate the charger together with the headphones from the iPhone packaging, it would save almost 100 thousand tons of material for 4 million iPhones. If you can't imagine 4 thousand tons, then imagine 10 Boeing 747 planes on top of you. This is precisely the weight Apple could save if 100 million iPhones were sold without an adapter and headphones. Of course, the iPhone also has to get to you somehow, so it is necessary to take into account non-renewable resources in the form of fuel. The smaller the weight of the package itself, the more products you can transport at once. Weight reduction is therefore important to reduce environmental impact.
Reduction of e-waste production
For several years, the European Union has been trying to prevent the ever-increasing production of e-waste. In the case of chargers, it would be possible to reduce the production of e-waste by unifying all charging connectors, so that each charger and cable fits all devices. However, the greatest reduction in e-waste production in the case of adapters will occur when no more are produced, or when Apple does not pack them in packaging. This would simply force users to use the charger they already have at home – given that iPhone chargers have been fixed for several years now, this shouldn't be a problem. If users use older chargers, they will both reduce the production of e-waste and cause their overall production to decrease.
Lower production costs
Of course, it's not all about the environment, it's also about money. If Apple removes chargers and earphones from the packaging of iPhones, it should theoretically reduce the price of the iPhones themselves, by a few hundred crowns. It's not just about the fact that Apple doesn't pack chargers and headphones - it's also about reduced shipping costs, as the boxes will definitely be much narrower and lighter, so you can move several times more of them with one means of transport. It's the same in the case of storage, where size plays an important role. If you look at the iPhone box now, you will find that the charger and headphones make up practically more than half of the thickness of the entire package. This means that it would be possible to store 2-3 boxes instead of one current box.
A constant excess of accessories
Every year (and not only) Apple causes a surplus of accessories, i.e. charging adapters, cables and headphones, mainly for the following reasons: very few people buy an iPhone for the first time, which means that they probably already have one charger, cable and headphones at home - if of course he didn't destroy. In addition, USB chargers have become very popular in recent years, so even in this case it is more or less clear that you will find at least one USB charger in every home. And even if not, it is always possible to charge the iPhone using the USB port on your Mac or computer. In addition, wireless charging is becoming more and more popular - so users have their own wireless charger. In addition, users may have reached for an alternative charger, given that the 5W original charger is very slow (except for the iPhone 11 Pro (Max). As for headphones, these days are wireless and wired headphones are already obsolete, in addition to the EarPods aren't exactly high quality, so it's quite likely that users have their own alternative headphones.

Courage
Apple has always tried to be revolutionary. It can be said that it all started with the removal of the 3,5mm port for connecting headphones. Many people complained about this move in the beginning, but later it became a trend and other companies followed Apple. In addition, it is somehow calculated that the iPhone should completely lose all ports in the next few years - so we will listen to music using AirPods, charging will then take place exclusively wirelessly. If Apple simply takes away the charger from its customers, then in a way it encourages them to buy something alternative. Instead of a classic charger, it is quite possible to reach for a wireless charger, which also prepares for the upcoming iPhone without connectors. It's the same with headphones, when you can buy the cheapest ones for a few hundred crowns - so why pack useless EarPods?

As I mentioned once, the wired EarPods are in a way a relic. If Apple does not bundle these wired headphones with future iPhones, then users who want to listen to music will simply be forced to look for some alternatives. In this case, it is quite possible that they will come across AirPods, which are currently the most popular wireless headphones in the world. So Apple is simply forcing users to buy AirPods, when these are the most popular headphones in the world. Another alternative from Apple is the Beats headphones, which offer practically everything that AirPods offer - except for the design, of course.

Well, a few things: I won't mind the absence of a charger/cable, I won't mind the absence of headphones. I would look forward to a thin box in which there would only be an iPhone :) I don't even need manuals, I would prefer the way of printing on the inside of the box, stickers are not needed, nor is a needle for piercing the sim ;) at the same time, I would request a reduction in the price of the device, if it is included in the price, it would be nice to have it included the original cover, for example;) or the option of choosing from two versions of the package ... only iphone or for newcomers a set of iphone airpods and wireless. Charger at a discounted price
If the absence of accessories will mean an adequate discount, then that will be great, but if the price does not change, or only cosmetically, so that I won't even buy the original charger for it, then it will just be another milking of customers by Apple, and not even a thousand will change anything articles about how Apple did it right again.
I have to add to the charger that a lot of people sell their old phone with a charger, so I don't have chargers lying around freely at home, but I would take it as an initial investment if the phone was cheaper.
Well, personally, the iPhone X has both an adapter and a cable as well as headphones in the box, and I will sell it with that. I have wireless by my bed, 2 chargers at my girlfriend's at work, one in the car, one at my iMac and one in my backpack just in case :-)
of course that's stupidity and milking customers
The price will remain if it is not higher, but you will have to buy a charger and there is no CE from Apple, hahaha it will be another purchase
Go somewhere with that eco-activism, the influence on the world is zero (0.000x).. Apple will earn more, because the prices will still be rounded the same way and that's probably all..
Go somewhere with that ignorance. Facts are presented here, which you can verify yourself by simple multiplication and addition.
if each piece of goods was not already wrapped separately in plastic, it would be a better solution. or if they sell packages without a time limit, you can choose..
I've had several iPhones (not now) and if I buy a new one, which I plan to do, and it doesn't come with a charger and cable, I won't have a way to charge it, so after it's discharged, I'll probably complain that it doesn't work? But maybe I missed the information somewhere, is it supposed to be USB-C this year? Then it probably wouldn't be such a problem.
Of course the cable will be there? besides, shouldn't the adapter be only for the cheapest version for 649 dollars, should there be a quick charger for the last ones

It's wonderful that Apple saves thousands of tons on packaging material (I remind you that the charger is packed in such a bag). And how many thousands of tons will the boxes of the manufacturer of chargers and cables weigh? And how much will Apple discount, save on chargers?
Normally I think the author got paid in advance by Apple for this article. With Apple's greed for profits and inventions like this, it's like the Emperor's New Clothes. We see it's on him… but no one says it out loud. And that's why we're waiting for that little kid to shout it out loud: The emperor is naked and what Apple is coming up with is outrageous! I wanted to buy my daughter an iPhone, so I also read this website to get my bearings, but I'm worried about Apple and their approach. This is not about ecology, but about gluttony.
Otherwise I praise the website, it gave me a lot.
In the 21 years I've been using mobile phones, I already have a box of different chargers at home, and the ones from the last 8 years are with a USB socket... That is. Apart from the cable, they are compatible because they all supply 5V, just varying amounts of current from 0,5 to 2 A most often.
Isn't the removal of the charger from the iPhone 13 related to the fact that the European Union has approved that all chargers will be the same, including Apple, but Apple does not want to introduce the same charger because they would work fully on android? :D So I see this matter as just a way for Apple to piss on the head of the EU...
It has nothing to do with ecology! AirPods Pro are non-disassembleable and non-repairable, just like the iPad Pro. I don't think it's very ecological to make things irreparable and when the battery runs out, throw the thing away and buy a new one, or "repair it from Apple" in the way that they throw it away and send a new thing for money in the case of a warranty repair, or file an AirPods Pro replacement. That's just how an arrogant, ignorant company behaves.
But I don't care what Apple removes from the box, can they pack the iPhone in a bag, like rolls??♂️?
OMG the bag?! :-o :-D
I suppose that one day the time will come when iPhones will be passed from hand to hand in the apple store without a box.
In fact, it is the sloppiness of the manufacturers, not just Apple. The ecological burden is of course higher if I buy the phone, headphones and charger separately. Instead of one package, three. If it was possible to sell a phone without a phone, they would. And surely someone would also write to them that this is brave.
I would suggest that the iPhone start producing very thin boxes that come without any accessories and that don't even have a phone in them.
For this box, the customer would pay something around 40 CZK, then he would buy a charger, headphones, a case for, last but not least, a phone for another 000 CZK.
It would be absolutely fantastic for the customer that you could put any phone they chose in the box. So, for example, he could put a black phone in the white box, a gold phone in the black box, and an orange phone in the silver box, for example.
You guys are joking, but this is serious business. This environmental activism won't happen by itself.. take it a little seriously..as a fact, you guys.
I don't have a single apple adapter besides the 10w one I bought. And I started with 3gs. I always sell the phone with complete accessories. That is that when I sell the current one, I will have to sell it without the adapter and reduce the sale price by the adapter. Or with an adapter and buy an extra new one. I don't feel like Apple has a discount. So a couple of hundred in a fart. If only they had given cables that would last if they are already bragging about ecology.
I'm not an apple fan, but I said to myself that I want to give myself momentary joy for many years, then the average of one phone is 3,5 years. And now I find out that I should buy all the accessories for it? because I don't have anything compatible with new phones and not at all with Apple. And shouldn't I rather buy an apple for the price of an apple and immediately return it ecologically? so the company will not lose profit and I will do a good thing for the environment. So this article brought me back to earth.
