Community navigation Waze, which was created as an Israeli startup and was subsequently bought by Internet giant Google for a billion dollars, has been updated to version 4.0. This is the biggest update since the company's acquisition, and users can look forward to a number of positive changes. Interestingly, the news only concerns iOS for now. Android users aren't expected to see a corresponding update until later this year, which is a rather surprising development for a Google-owned app.
For those unfamiliar with Waze navigation, it is a successful and popular app that is completely free. Its data is obtained from Waze's multi-million user base spread all over the world. The community creates map materials, but also current traffic data. The application thus warns you of radars, police patrols or closures, and also provides you with information on, for example, current fuel prices at specific gas stations.
So what did the update to version 4.0 bring? Above all, the modernization of the user environment and support for the larger display of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. The energy consumption of the application should also be significantly reduced, and if you play with the application for a while, you will find that it costs less energy to operate the application and for you. Changes in the user environment aimed to bring the controls closer to the user so that they are always at hand as much as possible.
Selecting a route and starting navigation is now faster. You can also add a waypoint more easily, and the alpha and omega application is now even more accessible - reporting problems and unpredictable events along the route. You can also share your estimated time of arrival (ETA) in a flash. You will also notice the changes on the map itself, which is now much more legible, clearer and more colorful. The last interesting novelty is the possibility to be reminded of the departure time based on an event from your calendar. The application takes into account the current traffic situation, so you should no longer be late for an important meeting.

Well, it seems more childish to me as far as the graphics are concerned. I don't think it's possible to recall all the events where there were patrols, traffic jams, etc. I don't think the energy requirement has dropped significantly.
It looks nice, but we'll see how it behaves in traffic. I'm grateful to Waze for not spending time in traffic jams, if only to say the least. The new graphic is another thing, but I have to try it before I give my opinion :-)
The only thing they should redo is the permission system for editing maps. It's really cool that I can edit the places I drive to, but if there's a road that I don't have a "level" for, I won't add a side road to it, so I stopped editing :-(
There is a waze forum where you report it and the guys will connect it to you very quickly and gladly. or just chat directly in the editor.
Great thanks, I'll try.
I'm waiting for POI to be added there...at least I could see gas stations and food there.
Petrol stations have all been there for a long time...
Waze still has one thing, because of which many people cannot start using it, and that is the offline mode. I travel all over the world and I always need to download a map of the whole country and then I don't have to worry about anything, and until Waze makes this available, Maps.me or HERE will win for me. I'm not criticizing anything, I'm just pointing out what it lacks almost to perfection... Many people simply don't need to know the current traffic situation when traveling around Australia or outside cities in North America.
Waze is an online navigation. No offline half a year old data…
Ondrej: Waze will not be offline due to the very essence of the application, namely online information from traffic, up-to-date maps, etc.
Kamil: why don't they go see gas stations?
Functionally (navigation) it is fine. But the user interface lost its simplicity and became somewhat cumbersome. Just an update for an update.
She has gotten a lot worse over the last two years. It is unusable outside the city. It collects data on where other drivers drive and recommends these routes, and so instead of driving to Dresden on the highway, it dragged me through the districts where scumbags who don't have a license plate drive around their farts and black dumps. The journey is two hours longer.
Shouldn't you have turned off to avoid toll roads or motorways? It is interesting that many drivers have the opposite problem and complain that it drags them onto the highway...
There is nothing easier than having alternative routes listed and choosing the highway.
Thanks, it was on. Apparently it was switched in some update (where they put it as default), because I don't remember anyone fiddling with it.
