The first generation of Apple Watch has definitely rung its bell. The watchOS 5 introduced yesterday does not support the first Apple smartwatch. The fact was confirmed by Apple itself on its website, which listed only Apple Watch Series 5, 1 and 2 as supported models for watchOS 3.

The end of software support for the first Apple Watch (often referred to as Series 0) was more or less expected, as the model has inefficient components, especially a weak processor. However, watch owners will certainly not be pleased, especially those who bought an Apple Watch Edition made of 18-carat gold, the price of which ranged from 300 to 500 thousand crowns.

Apple Watch Series 0 will of course continue to be functional, but watchOS 4 has become the last major version of the system for them. Their owners will not be able to try functions such as Walkie-Talkie, interactive notifications or competition with friends through the Exercise application.

watchOS 5 compatibility:

watchOS 5 requires an iPhone 5s or later running iOS 12 or later, and supports the following Apple Watch models:

  • Apple Watch Series 1
  • Apple Watch Series 2
  • Apple Watch Series 3
