While in recent years new versions of the watchOS operating system have been relatively uninteresting in terms of news, this year should be different. The tenth generation of watchOS is supposed to bring, at least according to the leaks so far, a number of major innovations that allegedly have the potential to significantly improve the overall usability of the Apple Watch. It is all the more paradoxical that many Apple fans would welcome a completely banal notification about a disconnected iPhone, for example due to moving away from it and so on, instead of big news in watchOS.
It may seem almost unbelievable, but it's true - even nine years after its introduction, the Apple Watch can't natively notify the user that he has moved too far from his iPhone and because of this the connection has been disconnected and therefore, as a result, the end of mirroring notifications and so on. At the same time, this is a function that competing smartwatches, and what's more, even competing localizers at prices many times lower than those of the Apple Watch, have been available for many years. And just for the sake of interest, even AirTags are set to "call" users through a notification if they move away from them. It's an even bigger shame that Apple still doesn't allow this thing.
Why is that the case, we can only ask each other. One thing's for sure, though, technically it's certainly nothing that Apple can't do, so it's likely that it's somewhat intentional on their part. By not adding a notification after disconnecting the Watch from the iPhone, it can for example try to increase sales of cellular versions of the Apple Watch, which are almost no longer dependent on iPhones, and one can therefore move away from the phone with them without losing notifications and the like. The catch, however, is that (not only) in the Czech Republic, Apple Watch with LTE support only started to make its way relatively recently, and many apple lovers have no need to reach for them anyway, because they simply are not able to use them meaningfully. Apple's intention here may not fall on fertile ground, however, it is possible that we are talking about the specificity of the local market and not a global problem. However, wherever the truth may be, at least from many discussion forums it is clear that it is precisely the notification for a disconnected iPhone that Apple Watch owners lack in their watches to a large extent.
- Apple products can be purchased for example at AlgeIn iStores whether Mobile Emergency (In addition, you can take advantage of the Buy, sell, sell, pay off action at Mobil Emergency, where you can get an iPhone 14 starting at CZK 98 per month)
Look, I don't want to be a nitwit, but this notification can be turned on normally, when you move away from the iPhone, the watch beeps just like the airtag. It is in the application to find the device-iphone and to be notified about forgetting. So it is not displayed after disconnection, but it works!
After leaving the phone's range, a red crossed-out phone icon appears on my watch, so what's the problem???
exactly as Peters and Pavel write, this is how both the red crossed-out phone icon and notifications from the find app work by default on my watch.
The guys above me are super sheep. What they describe is absolutely not what the author aptly describes. And he's right.
Thanks for sticking up, even if maybe a little aggressive. But honestly, I also don't have the feeling that the icon of the crossed-out phone or the notification from Find for some time after leaving the place with the iPhone is the same as the classic notification that immediately alerts you when the phone is disconnected. But we all have different requirements.
After all, when the watch moves away from the phone and the connection is interrupted, it automatically connects to the mobile network and is synchronized again. Basically, the red cross icon symbolizing disconnection only lights up for a few seconds anyway.
I was driving home from work and 5 people told me that the iPhone was no longer near them - I don't know if it helped!
Yes, the 5s will tell you that, but also maybe 1 km from the iPhone. So the sometimes valid "how the condom machine in the Vatican..." I think the warning from the article would definitely be better
it's about 1 km, but better than not at all and at home
Well, I don't know, but at work my watch normally shows me that I'm far from my phone...
What is wrong? 🤔
Again, and to all the commenters - what the vast majority of you are writing about is the move away notification, not the disconnection from the iPhone. It sounds the same, but it's not the same - remote notifications are sent after a longer period of time or after leaving a large perimeter around the iPhone = the phone is much easier to lose than if the notification runs out immediately after disconnection.
ok sorrrrrrry
Precisely because of this incompetence of Apple, I had to buy Fixed smart for my car keys, which can do this. I often forgot my phone at work before the notification came, so I was already a kilometer away and the company was closed.
It's best to blame your own incompetence on someone else :-)
But that's Apple's incompetence. My Samsung watch vibrates as soon as it disconnects from the phone and vibrates for a long time until I confirm that I know about it. A great thing that can of course be turned off.
If Apple introduced this, I would immediately turn it off, even at home it would still bother me, I just walk two rooms away and the watch disconnects. But what annoys me is that they won't connect to wifi, which is of course available, and they just stay offline...
