On Monday, Apple will show us a whole range of new operating systems, among which, of course, watchOS 10 designed for its Apple Watch will not be missing. But will this new feature also be available for the company's smart watch you use?

The biggest change that the new system will bring is supposed to be a redesigned interface. Apple is said to focus on widgets that could be displayed as tiles in Google's Wear OS, which is widely used by Samsung in its Galaxy Watch, for example. They're meant to be a faster way to access key Apple Watch information without resorting to launching an app. In theory, you could access them by pressing the crown. There should also be a new layout of the home screen, which should be easier to navigate.

WatchOS 10 Apple Watch compatibility

The new system will be introduced on Monday, June 5, when the WWDC19 Keynote starts at 00:23. It is expected that the system will be available for beta testing to developers right after that, and to the general public about a month later. The sharp version should be released in September, i.e. after the introduction of iPhone 15 and Apple Watch Series 9.

If we look at the compatibility of the current watchOS 9 system, it is available for Apple Watch Series 4 and later, while the same compatibility is expected from the upcoming version. Accordingly, there are no mentions yet that the oldest Series 4 should be dropped from this list. You can find a complete overview below.

  • Apple Watch Series 4
  • Apple Watch Series 5
  • Apple Watch SE (2020)
  • Apple Watch Series 6
  • Apple Watch Series 7
  • Apple Watch SE (2022)
  • Apple Watch Series 8
  • Apple Watch Ultra
  • Apple Watch Series 9

What is interesting, however, is that watchOS 9 requires an iPhone 8 or later to run iOS 16. There is a lot of speculation about whether Apple will add support for the iPhone 17 and iPhone X with iOS 8. It would simply mean that you could to use watchOS 10 with your Apple Watch, you would need to own an iPhone XS, XR and later. At the same time, Apple adds that some features are not available on all devices, in all regions, or in all languages.
