When I was in college, I DJed a few times at various school events. At the time, I got by with an average laptop, a large stock of music on CDs and a disc. Nowadays, however, it is possible to see DJs in action using iPads in discotheques. Most of them also compose their own music and playlists on the iPad or iPhone.

The Czech application I'm the DJ can be quite an interesting helper for creating your own music songs. It was created by WA Production, a company dedicated to the worldwide sale of music packages for creating songs. Thanks to the app, I created quite interesting dance music on my iPhone and iPad in a few minutes, which consisted of different music genres, for example Electro House, Progressive House, Tropical House, Bounce and Trap.

I'm the DJ can be downloaded for free in the App Store, while the application is completely in the Czech localization. After launching, you will find yourself in the main menu, where you can see several music packages that contain dance loops, intros, samples and other elements. A pleasant discovery is the fact that most packages are free to download. Another must be purchased as part of in-app purchases, with the price ranging from three to four euros. Each pack is inspired by a different music genre and professional performers.

You must also confirm that you agree to the terms before each download. The important thing is that all the resulting songs are so-called "royalty free", meaning that they can be used for both commercial and non-commercial purposes. Once downloaded, you can dive into your own project. After filling in the name and choosing the genre, you will find yourself in an imaginary studio, where you can freely mix individual packages with samples.

The complete menu of all downloaded packages can be found on the left, where you can simply open the individual sections. At the top is a tester into which you can drag the selected loop or sample and listen to what it contains. If you're satisfied, just drag it back down to the tracker. This is where the song itself is created. All loops, samples, loops or traps can always be played, deleted and shuffled in various ways. However, deeper user settings or working with layers are not available.

The I'm the DJ app is very simple. You can create your own song this way in a few minutes. Once you're happy, just click export and upload. You name the track and start rendering. You can then upload the song to the music service SoundCloud and share it with the world. You can also save to Dropbox, send the track by e-mail or send it to other applications.

However, I'm the DJ definitely deserves more attention in terms of design and overall overview. Personally, I don't like the system of selecting downloaded packages, it could definitely be designed and organized better. I also miss the already mentioned more advanced functions such as volume control or working with multiple layers.

However, the application will certainly be appreciated by novice users who are experimenting with their own projects and have no experience with professional music programs. The icing on the cake is the Czech localization and the fact that the application is free for all iOS devices. Thanks to the free rights, you can even sell the resulting track in iTunes or the Beatport store.
