Apple was founded in 1976, which is a respectable 44 years back. During that time, she went through all kinds of ups and downs. Currently, the Californian giant ranks among the most valuable companies in the world, and it is somehow clear that it will be among these companies in the future as well. In today's article, we will go back 23 years, i.e. to 1997. In this year, Apple released the then brand new operating system Mac OS 8, in which users received various innovations and other great functions. It should be noted, however, that the entire development of Mac OS 8 somehow did not go completely according to expectations.

All the new features Apple added to Mac OS 8 were developed primarily for the upcoming Copland OS. This operating system was to be used by Apple in all future devices. However, after a long time, the development of this system was abandoned due to many problems that kept appearing. The end of the development of Copland OS is one of the biggest failures in the world of information technology. The Apple company thus continued to develop the classic Mac OS, which is here with us until now. Today's version of macOS differs from the original versions in many ways. If you were wondering what one of the older versions, for example Mac OS 8, looked like, and if you would also like to try it out, then you are absolutely right here. The developer Felix Rieseberg created a special emulator called macintosh.js, which is completely written in JavaScript. This application emulates a Macintosh Quadra 900 Apple computer with a Motorola processor running Mac OS 8. Motorola processors were used by Apple before they switched to PowerPC processors.

With this emulator, which is available for current versions of macOS, Windows and Linux, you can try Mac OS 8 without any problems. All you need is an app macintosh.js and it should be noted that there is no need to install anything. As part of the emulated Mac OS 8, you will find several games and applications that you can play or try without any problems. Specifically, in the field of games, for example, Duke Nukem 3D, Civilization II, Dungeons & Dragons, Namely, Oregon Trail, Alley 19 Bowling and Damage Incorporated, in the case of applications, you can look forward to Photoshop 3, Premiere 4, Illustrator 5.5 or StuffIt Expander. There is also the classic Internet Explorer designed for browsing websites. But its version is outdated, so you won't be able to connect anywhere using it these days. This entire application is not endorsed by Apple in any way and is intended for educational purposes only. In the past, Felix Rieseberg also packed the application in exactly the same way Windows 95. You can download the application using the link below, then just scroll down to the Downloads section on the page and choose which version for which operating system you want to download.
