You may have noticed that in our section, which presents you with fresh game news, you can quite often come across various projects from the rogue-like genre. Games that force you to improve on each playthrough and adapt to fickle randomness are especially popular among indie game studios. One of them is Laki Studios, in which they prepared its distilled form in the form of the fairy-tale Oaken for all fans of the genre.

Oaken presents a simple gameplay concept. It contains a field composed of hexagons, on which you fight in turn-based battles against enemies. The emphasis is on positioning your units and using their abilities appropriately. Like many other representatives of the genre, in Oaken you will encounter a deck of cards representing powerful spells. However, compared to such a Slay the Spire, you cannot use them indefinitely. Depending on the game difficulty, you will use each of them a maximum of twice in one playthrough.

At the same time, your strategy for improving spells and units will be guided by the artifacts you get from defeating one of the bosses. They divide the game into three acts, the first of which, due to the initial lack of complexity, further challenges you to defeat enemies within a predetermined time limit. In addition to its simple rules and complicated details, Oaken is very nice to look at. However, the game is still in early access, so expect a small amount of non-essential bugs.
