One of the main points of yesterday's keynote was the new Apple TV. The Apple set-top box in the fourth generation received a much-needed makeover, a new touch controller, and also an environment open to third-party applications. However, the Czech user still has one problem – Siri does not understand Czech.
The new Apple TV will not go on sale until October, but selected developers will be able to try out not only the development tools now, the lucky ones will even get the device itself early.
Apple has several Apple TV Developer Kits ready to give away next week to developers who have until 11/XNUMX register for the developer program for tvOS. A draw will then take place on Monday, September 14, and selected winners will receive exclusive access to the fourth-generation Apple TV before the sales start.
However, since there are only a limited number of Developer Kits, including the new Apple TV, Siri Remote, power cable, Lightning to USB cable, USB-A to USB-C cable and documentation, priority will be given to those developers who already have some apps in the App Store for iPhones and iPads. As soon as the developers receive the new Apple TV, they will of course not be able to write about it or show it anywhere.
But what is much more interesting to us is the list of countries from which developers can apply for the Apple TV Developer Kit. We will find among them the Czech Republic. This is rather surprising given that voice will be the most essential control element of the new Apple TV, Siri still does not understand Czech, and it can be expected that most "television" applications would certainly like to use voice control.
In addition, in more than twenty countries that are included in the Apple TV Developer Kit game, the Czech Republic is not the only one whose citizens have not yet been able to use Siri in their native language. To this day, Siri can't even speak Finnish, Hungarian, Polish or Portuguese, yet developers from these countries have a chance to get the new Apple TV.
However, as our reader Lukáš Korba pointed out, this most likely does not mean that new localizations for Siri, including Czech, could also appear along with tvOS and the new Apple TV. Apple in its documentation states one very important thing about the controller - it will offer two.
During the keynote, the talk was exclusively about the Siri Remote, i.e. the controller that, in addition to the touchpad, will also offer voice control of the new Apple TV. However, this controller will be available exclusively for only a handful of countries (Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, Spain, Great Britain and the United States) where Siri is fully functional. For all other countries, there is a controller called Apple TV Remote without Siri, and the search will take place after pressing the button on the screen.
Apple does not indicate in the documentation whether the Apple TV Remote will not have a microphone, which is necessary for control via Siri, however, it is possible that we will not actually find it in the "truncated" remote. Then it would mean that if a Czech customer wanted to use Siri in English, for example, which is no problem, he should not buy an Apple TV in the Czech Republic, but go to Germany for it, for example. Only there will you get the Apple TV in the package with the Siri Remote.
The wait for Czech Siri is getting longer again...
We have updated the article and added new facts that indicate that the Czech Siri is not yet ready.
IMHO, this is only due to the fact that there are relatively many developers for iOS in the Czech Republic who work for foreign projects, and therefore it is worthwhile for Apple to supply the Czech Republic.
It has nothing to do with Siri at all. Although Apple has a development team in the Czech Republic (probably a small one) that is working on something, but it is pure speculation to believe that it is Siri.
This is how the SIRI "localizations" for CZ/SK were leaked (the application contains so-called localization chains that work in such a way that the key is translated behind the text in the given country and are in every application from Apple, if you want to look, just click on the application On a Mac, right click on the application, Show package contents and then navigate to the directory: Contents/Resources and there are translations in the directories Base.lproj, codelanguage.lproj and below them are files with localizations), the question is how long it will take to get voice recognition working , which is not exactly a simple matter
I think it is more about solving the recognition of Czech grammar and the meaning of the sentence - the recognition of the Czech voice has been solved for 2 years - after all, dictation in Czech works, and above all quite well :)
That's the question. If I compare my communication in English, Siri understands even a fast spoken sentence, as for dictation, I have to speak really slowly and clearly, otherwise it has quite difficult problems... Tested today...
I'm afraid I know the truth.. it's nice to be on this list, but officially Apple states that there will be 2 types of control devices for Apple TV. 1 will have built-in Siri and the other will not. It can therefore be assumed that in unsupported countries the purchase of the device will be limited. I am attaching an excerpt from the Apple website..
The Apple TV Remote comes in two flavors—one with Siri built in and the other with onscreen search capabilities.
The Siri Remote is available in the following countries:
Australia
Canada
France
Germany
Japan
Spain
United Kingdom
United States
So it looks like I'll go to Munich for a new ATV thanks to the SIRI controller.
yes.. there will be fun.. I don't understand why Apple decided that way.. they could easily offer a default controller without Siri in the Czech store and anyone who is interested would click on the second model.. in any case, you can communicate in English today, for sure a large % people in CR, oh Apple, when will you learn..
I guess the license from the Siri provider won't allow them - it's not 100% their technology.
But I don't really understand it either - I use Siri on my iPhone in English, for example, when I'm driving in a car...
I would guess that the only difference will be in the description of the icon - in selected countries it will say Siri, in other countries it will say search.
Not yet clear how search will work? If you use dictation or the classic current - keyboard on the screen and chase letters through the touch controller?
In my opinion, it is not certain that if you bring an ATV from Munich, that SIRI will work for you in English, it is possible that because of this you will have to log in with a US Apple ID, it is just my opinion as I know Apple....
Thanks, Lukáš, unfortunately we did not notice this detail in the documents. I have already corrected the article with these facts. It's a shame.
no start.. They are cunning.. just like they skipped the iPad mini 4 and devoted almost zero time to it, so they cleverly silenced 2 different remotes.. a bit of a lie, a bit of a scumbag, a bit of marketing, a bit of what for Apple..
Well, I've already made up my mind, and fuck my son. I decided for a new generation, with the fact that I am giving the 3rd generation to my son for an apartment in Brno. Apple made a bad decision for me, unfortunately, but for him. The absence of an optical cable is decisive for me. Music from the iPhone via Apple TV directly to the Yamaha receiver, film image to the TV, optically via the receiver. It would all be in vain.
I agree. But the USB-C connector is a very small chance even today and in the history of TV. If it is not somehow "cut down" only for service purposes or "blocked" or if it can at least be hacked, then min. in the future it's the way - either directly or through different hubs (I hope that there will be more and more of them and the price will go down) then it will be possible to extract both image and sound or just sound.
I somehow did not understand if the selected developer gets the Apple TV for $1.00 or what the price of the kit is. Does anyone know?
Yes, he only pays $1 to have his personal information verified, otherwise he gets the kit for free.
thanks, I was just looking at the apple forum and it's true
Hmm, I see that Apple is putting new things into operation more and more, but in order to expand the old ones, it's working hard, especially that it will have its own car...
I wonder if Apple is working on a Czech version of Siri? You can find out? I think dictation works very well.
new job offer for apple,, siri?
