One of the positive innovations that Apple managed to get away with this year is the integration of AirPlay technology into smart TVs from third-party manufacturers. The first TVs with AirPlay compatibility will hit store shelves this spring. In connection with this news, Apple incorporated the necessary foundations to support the new functions in the latest update of the iOS 12.2 operating system.

A developer named Khaos Tian managed to break the HomeKit protocol and simulate adding a smart TV to the Home app. The result is a series of screenshots and a video showing the new features in action. After simulating the existence of a HomeKit-compatible smart TV, Tian added a "fake" TV to the Home app, revealing new TV control interfaces on his network.

As you can see in the photo, the Home application allowed in this case to turn it off and on by tapping on the corresponding tile or changing the input in the detailed menu. Individual inputs can also be renamed in the Home application according to what devices they are used for (cable TV, game console, etc.). This is a beta test version so far, so it is more than likely that we will see wider and better options, including voice control, in future updates.

The new integration of smart TVs into the HomeKit platform promises the full inclusion of these devices in the respective application. Users will be able to create scenes and control TVs remotely, including turning off, turning on, and switching between individual inputs. Apple TV owners will also get a number of new features after installing tvOS 12.2. According to Apple, the mentioned improvements should reach users as part of the spring update of the respective operating systems.
