Hotspot is an absolutely great feature on your iPhone. With a personal hotspot, you can easily share your mobile data between other devices within range, simply using Wi-Fi. So if you start sharing a personal hotspot on your iPhone, then anyone can connect to it simply via Wi-Fi in the settings - just know the password and be within range. The devices in question that connect to your hotspot will then use your mobile data to connect to the internet. In this case, it is useful to know some details, for example, who is connected to your hotspot and who has used how much data. If you want to know more, keep reading.

How much data has been used by a particular device

If you want to find out how much data was used by a specific device that was connected to your hotspot, proceed as follows:

  • On your iPhone, go to the native app Settings.
  • In this application, move to the section named Mobile data.
  • Get off on something here below, until you come across a category Mobile data, where there is information about the use of mobile data by specific applications.
  • The first lines should show an option personal hotspot, which you tap.
  • It will now be displayed to you all device, that was connected to your hotspot, along with the amount of data transferred.

Resetting hotspot usage statistics

If you want to keep track of hotspot usage, for example if you want to see how much data has been transferred over it per month, then you need to reset the statistics regularly. If you want to reset the hotspot usage statistics, proceed as follows:

  • On your iPhone, go to the native app Settings.
  • In Settings, move to the section Mobile data.
  • Then get off here all the way down under the list of applications.
  • At the very bottom you will then find a line with blue text Reset statistics.
  • After clicking on this line, it is enough to reset in the menu that appears confirm by pressing a button Reset statistics.
  • This way, you have successfully reset all statistics related to mobile data usage.

What devices are connected to the hotspot

If you want to find out on your iPhone which devices are currently connected to its hotspot, the procedure is slightly different in this case. Unfortunately, you can't view this information directly in the native app - you need to download a third-party app. There are several applications that can show you similar data, but I can recommend it Network Analyzer, which is available for free. After downloading, just go to the section in the bottom menu lan, where in the upper right click the button scan. It will scan the network and show you everything device, that are connected to your iPhone. In addition to device names, you can also view theirs IP addressand some other information.

Hotspot security settings

I assume that none of you want anyone to be able to connect to your hotspot - the same applies to your private Wi-Fi, which you also do not give access to just anyone. Apple has added a few options to the hotspot settings that you can use to secure it. To view these options, do the following:

  • Open the app on your iPhone Settings.
  • Then open the box with the name personal hotspot, where there are a total of three options:
    • Allow others to connect: serves as a classic switch for activating and deactivating the hotspot.
    • Wi-Fi password: here you can set a password under which other devices will be able to connect to your hotspot.
    • Family Sharing: here you can set whether family sharing members will be able to join automatically or whether they will have to ask for approval.
