When Steve Jobs introduced the new iCloud service package last Monday, the information that it replaces MobileMe and that it will be completely free must have pleased all Apple device owners, especially those who recently subscribed to MobileMe.

However, you don't have to beat your head against the wall right away. Money put into the service, which will be discontinued in June 2012, will not come. Information for existing MobileMe users appeared on the company's website right after the keynote, informing them of how they should behave in the situation. The advice there is a bit confusing, but luckily we have MacRumors to help:

If you want, you can cancel MobileMe now and get a refund for the amount of time you've been using the service.

If you want to use MobileMe until iCloud is available, just wait until the fall and cancel your account then, you can still get some of your money back.

All users with MobileMe accounts active on June 6, 2011, have their free account extended until June 30 of the following year. It means you can use MobileMe services all year long just like you used to. However, you cannot create new accounts, subscriptions, or upgrade your existing account to Family pack.

If you're one of the lucky ones who extended MobileMe in the last few days before iCloud was introduced. If it was a maximum of 45 days, you will get back all the money paid for the service.

When switching from MobileMe to iCloud, all existing data (calendar, contacts, email...) will be transferred. The problem arises if you have a different Apple ID on iOS than on MobileMe (which you do, otherwise it doesn't work). We may not be interested in the music, but what about all the purchased apps? We can register in iTunes with any email address we want, except the one from MobileMe. A couple of threads have popped up on the Apple forums trying to solve this problem, apparently without success so far. So far, it looks like we won't know the solution until iCloud launches in the fall.
