Commercial message: Controlling smart light bulbs, cameras and other gadgets via the Home application is just the beginning, the native iOS application Shortcuts offers a greater experience and a bunch of other options.

You will find this useful app already pre-installed on your iPhone or iPad, it is a way to speed up and facilitate tasks across applications — just put multiple actions from different applications into one shortcut and then launch it with one click or a voice command. You can also link the launch to, for example, the time of day, your location or battery status.

Shortcuts also expand the possibilities of using smart products. In it, you will find functions that are missing from the Home application for various reasons. Let's show it on the example of two products of the smart home brand VOCOlinc.

Sleep mode for the VOCOlinc VAP1 smart air purifier

Air purifier natively controllable via Apple HomeKit? VOCOlinc VAP1 is the first and only such product in the world. All apple growers will appreciate it, especially now in the pollen season. While in the Home app you can set and automate its on/off and power level, the Shortcuts app also lets you play with sleep mode and child lock.

Just create a new shortcut, select the VOCOlinc application in action and choose the product you want to automate. Then choose what the cleaner should do. If you name the Shortcut, for example, “Night mode”, after saying this formula, Siri will start it.

Privacy mode for indoor camera VOCOlinc VC1 Opto

The brand new internal camera offers a similar gadget VOCOlinc VC1 Opto, which is only a month old. It has a physical private mode that you activate or deactivate in the VOCOlinc app. However, you can start it with a voice command, or add it as part of a larger automation, right through the shortcuts. The principle is the same as for an air purifier.

Create a new shortcut, select the VOCOlinc application in the action and select the VC1 product in the drop-down menu. Then choose what the camera should do. If you name the Shortcut, for example, “Privacy mode”, Siri will turn it on after you say it.
