The iPhone XR, introduced in September, will already be in the hands of the first customers this Friday, and it was so logical that we would also see the first reviews during the week. Starting today, they started appearing on the web, and it seems that reviewers are very satisfied with the latest novelty in the field of iPhones this year.
If we summarize the reviews published so far from large foreign servers, such as The Verge, Wired, Engadget and another, most positively rated feature of the new product is battery life. According to testing, this is by far the best compared to what Apple has ever offered in iPhones. One of the reviewers claims that his iPhone XR lasted an entire weekend on a single charge, even though it wasn't intensive use. Other reviewers agree that the iPhone XR's battery life is still a bit further than the iPhone XS Max, which already has a very solid battery life.
The photos are also very good. The iPhone XR has the same lens and sensor combination for the main camera as the iPhone XS and XS Max. The quality of the images is thus very good, although there are certain limitations due to the configuration of the camera. Due to the absence of a second lens, the iPhone XR does not offer such rich options in portrait mode (Stage Light, Stage Light Mono), moreover, to use it you need to really aim at people (not at other things/animals, with which the iPhone X/XS/XS Max they don't have a problem). However, the depth of field adjustment is located here.
Slightly more negative reactions are to the phone's display, which in this case is made using LCD technology. When viewing the display from an angle, there is a slight color distortion, when the image takes on a faint pink tint. However, it is nothing significant. It also doesn't mind the lower PPI values that many people complained about after the introduction of the iPhone XR. The fineness of the display is far from reaching the level of the iPhone XS, but no one complained about the displays of the iPhone 8 either, and in terms of fineness, the iPhone XR is just like last year's cheaper model.
A negative aspect may be the absence of classic 3D Touch. The iPhone XR has a new feature called Haptic Touch, which, however, does not work based on the recognition of pressing pressure, but rather the time the finger is placed on the display. Some gestures have thus been removed, but Apple should gradually add them back (it is speculated that the "true" 3D Touch will gradually disappear completely). In their tests, reviewers also found that Apple does not use the same material for the back of the phone as in the new XS and XS Max models. In the case of the iPhone XR, this "most durable glass on the market" is only found on the front of the phone. There's also glass on the back, but it's a little less durable (allegedly still more so than it was on the iPhone X).
The conclusion of all reviews is essentially the same – the iPhone XR is a great iPhone that is a significantly more logical choice for regular users than the top model XS/XS Max. Yes, some high-end functions and features are missing here, but this absence is adequately balanced by the price, and in the end, the phone makes perhaps a lot more sense than the iPhone XS for 30 and more thousand. If you have an iPhone X, switching to the XR doesn't make much sense. However, if you have an older model, you definitely don't have to worry about the iPhone XR.
Yeah, it will sell well. To the disadvantages: Most people take the same snapshots, pictures, take their phone and slap - no one sets anything up. For a few individuals who will play with depth of field, etc., the XS is better. Nobody around me uses 3D touch and many people don't even know about it. Apple will remove it anyway. If not all devices have it, but only a minority, it's more of an anomaly. If Apple wanted to keep it, it would put it on all devices. The display will be fine. You usually don't look at it from the side, it's a proven non-burning technology. The back glass is softer, but I personally buy a cover glass for the display and a transparent cover for the back immediately in the store. So I don't care. Due to the smaller display resolution, it will be the most powerful device on the market. The colors will welcome people, and everyone will appreciate the longer durability. So the product is fine. The price is fine. Apple fans don't care that the Huawei Mate 20 Pro is practically the same price. I have a Mac, iPad, Airpods, Apple TV. What use would anything nonApple be to me?
It has become such a bad thing to talk about the LENS instead of the LENS when referring to the iPhone camera. Writing about the "absence of the second lens" is really stupid. The iPhone XR has one lens, which consists of several (I guess six?) optical elements, which are also called lenses. The iPhone XS and XS MAX have the same two lenses. It's the same nonsense as if you wrote about the gearbox in a car that "the car has an automatic gear" :) Please correct it and write it correctly next time. Thanks
