Apple released a supplemental update for OS X 10.8.5, which it tested internally during the week. The update is supposed to solve problems with the camera, ejecting external units or the functioning of HDMI audio. Along with it, iTunes 11.1.1 was released.

Some users have complained that the front FaceTime camera does not work for them during calls via Skype or Google Hangouts. Apple has now fixed this bug.

OS X Supplemental Update v10.8.5 is recommended for all OS X Mountain Lion v10.8.5 users. This update:

  • Addresses an issue that may have prevented some apps from using the FaceTime HD camera on mid-2013 MacBook Air systems.
  • Fixes an issue that could cause external drives to be ejected to put the computer to sleep.
  • Fixes an issue that could prevent HDMI audio from working properly after waking from sleep.
  • Fixes an issue that could prevent some Bluetooth USB adapters from working properly.

At the same time, there was also a mini update for iTunes that fixes the previous big update.

This update fixes an issue that could cause iTunes Extras to display incorrectly, fixes issues with deleted podcasts, and improves stability.
