The Swedish indie video game series SteamWorld doesn't compete with much more well-known brands from larger companies in its genre diversity. You could see a world inhabited by steam powered robots for the first time in the tower defense game SteamWorld Tower Defense. Perhaps the most interesting piece in the series, however, is the three-year-old SteamWorld Quest: Hand of Gilgamesh, which you can now get on Steam at a hefty discount.

SteamWorld Quest plunges you into classic fantasy storytelling. Perhaps with the only difference that the heroes here are strange-looking robots. One group of such creatures sets out to save the world from an evil army. And you will help them in this by playing tactically with cards. SteamWorld Quest is inspired by successful card roguelites and uses cards as a means to mediate battles.

However, unlike Slay the Spire, the cards here are only a means of combat, not a central component of the fights. The whole game is more like a classic turn-based RPG that uses decks to add unpredictable randomness. Each of the heroes in your party only uses eight cards, crazy combos and strategies you won't see in SteamWorld Quest.
