MacBooks have enjoyed huge popularity since the arrival of Apple's own silicon chips. They offer great performance and battery life, which makes them first-class companions for everyday use. On the other hand, it is also true that these are not exactly twice the cheapest products. For this reason, it is quite understandable that users want to protect them from all kinds of damage and are generally careful about them. Many apple growers therefore also rely on covers. These promise increased device resistance, when they are specifically intended to prevent damage, for example, in the event of a fall or impact.

Although the covers on the MacBook can really help and prevent the mentioned damage, it is also necessary to mention that they can, on the contrary, aggravate the Mac itself. Therefore, let's shed some light together on whether it is actually worth using covers, or if, on the contrary, it is not better to rely only on your own responsibility and careful handling.

MacBook cover issues

As we mentioned above, although covers are primarily intended to help MacBooks and prevent possible damage, paradoxically they can also bring a number of problems. In this direction, we are talking about so-called overheating. This is because some covers can block the heat dissipation from the device, due to which the specific MacBook is not able to cool properly and consequently overheats. In such a case, the so-called can also appear thermal throttling, which is ultimately responsible for the temporary reduction in device performance.

In addition, most covers are made of hard plastic. Not only does it block the heat dissipation much more, but at the same time it does not provide the level of protection that we would probably require. In the event of a fall, such a cover usually breaks (cracks) and does not really save our Mac. If we add to that that we are covering the elegant design of Apple laptops in this way, then the use of the cover may seem unnecessary.

Why use a MacBook cover?

Now let's look at it from the opposite side. Why, on the other hand, is it good to use a MacBook cover? Although it may not prevent damage in the event of a fall, it cannot be denied that it is an excellent protection against scratches. However, choosing the right model is always essential. If you are looking for a cover for your apple laptop, then you should definitely find out if it will cause heat dissipation problems. In general, the material used and the thickness of the cover play an extremely important role.

Apple users who travel quite often with their laptop and take the cover as a sure insurance policy cannot even imagine their MacBook without a cover. In the end, however, it always depends on the specific user and his preferences. In short, we could sum it up so that although using a cover may not save you, on the other hand, its use does not bring such major negatives - unless it is a really bad cover. Personally, I used a model bought on Aliexpress for about three years, which I subsequently observed was directly responsible for occasional overheating problems. I myself carry my MacBook several times a day over long distances, and I can easily get by with a case, which can then be stored in, for example, a bag or backpack.
