When Apple introduced Screen Time, many parents cheered. The new tool promised, among other things, the ability to gain perfect control over the way children use their iOS devices and, if necessary, limit the time spent on a mobile or tablet, or block certain applications or content on the web. But kids are resourceful, and they've played a cat-and-mouse game with Apple to exploit Screen Time's vulnerability to their advantage.

For example, the website writes about how children try to bypass Screen Time settings and how to detect and neutralize these tricks Protect Young Eyes. It's no surprise that these parenting tips are in turn being widely shared by kids who are happy to work on coming up with a counterattack. The simplicity of control, so typical of all applications and tools from Apple, works against both sides. "This is not rocket science, backdoor or dark web hacking," Chris McKenna, founder of the aforementioned website and the initiative of the same name, points out, adding that he is shocked that Apple did not actually anticipate this kind of activity from children's users.

Although Apple has been trying to continuously improve the tool since the introduction of Screen Time, there are some gaps in it. Children are resourceful enough and invent ways to take advantage of shortcomings. Although Apple does not address specific problems, it does promise future improvements. Apple spokeswoman Michele Wyman said in an emailed statement that the company is committed to providing its users with powerful tools to manage their iOS devices, and that it is constantly working to make these tools even better. However, specific errors are not mentioned in this statement.
