The building civilization of Before We Leave retains the first three "X's" of such a concept - explore, expand, exploit, while omitting clashes with other civilizations. The result is a relaxing building strategy where the biggest rival of your cute inhabitants will be only vegetarian space whales.

Before We Leave takes place in an indeterminate future. In it, human civilization was overtaken by a calamity of galactic proportions. The game doesn't explain this premise any further, but as the surviving inhabitants begin to emerge from nuclear bunker-like shelters as the first buildings are constructed, you can take the hint that humanity itself may not have been innocent. Your task thus becomes for these survivors (the game gives them the nickname peeps) to build a completely new civilization, which, however, will not make the same mistakes as the previous one with its uncontrollable development. Reasonable use of natural resources and ancient artifacts becomes key to this.
In addition to natural resources, you can also find the remains of a past civilization on the map divided into hexagons. These will save you a lot of time discovering them in the classic tech tree that you will climb for the rest of the game. Before We Leave is a peaceful game - except perhaps for the unexpected incursions of space whales that can devastate your laboriously tilled vegetable fields. As such, it doesn't push you anywhere, and you can advance your civilization at your own pace to explore your planet, as well as several others in the same star system.
