The developers from Feral Interactive, who are behind a number of great ports for macOS/iOS, announced today on their website that they are releasing a standalone data disc for the legendary Rome: Total War, which has settled on the screens of iPhones and iPads for the past two years. It's a data disc called Barbarian Invasion, and familiar players of the series won't be surprised to know that it's a full port of a very well-received expansion from years ago.

The Barbarian Invasion data disc for Rome: Total War arrived on the iPad a few months ago, so now the range is complete and the game can also be enjoyed by iOS players playing on smaller screens. The story of the datadisk takes place from the year 363 AD, when the Roman Empire was at the height of its power and barbarian tribes from the north began to rebel against it.

Basically, the player has a choice of two factions – either he takes the reins of the Roman general and tries to protect the empire and strengthen it even more, or he takes on the role of a barbarian leader whose goal is to eliminate the entire Roman Empire and win back as much territory as possible. Compared to the original game, several new and modified game mechanics appear here.

The Barbarian Invasion datadisk requires an iPhone 5s and later, iOS 12, and a minimum of 4GB of free storage space. You will pay a solid 129 crowns for it and you can use it on both iPad and iPhone. So if you have the iPad version of the game, it will be available for download on the iPhone as well.
