There are several ways to take a screenshot on an iPad. With the arrival of iPadOS 13, these options have expanded even more, as have the options for editing screenshots. To take a screenshot on the iPad, you can use not only its buttons, but also an external keyboard or Apple Pencil. How to do it?

  • On a keyboard connected via Bluetooth or USB, you can use the keyboard shortcut ⌘⇧4 and start annotating the screenshot right away.
  • You can also use the keyboard shortcut ⌘⇧3 to take a screenshot of the iPad screen.
  • For models with a Home Button, you can take a screenshot by pressing the Home Button and the power button.
  • On the iPad Pro, you can take a screenshot by pressing the top button and the volume up button.
  • On an iPad compatible with Apple Pencil, swipe from the bottom left corner to the center of the screen. You can immediately make annotations on the screenshot taken in this way.

Annotation and PDF

In iPadOS 13, you can enrich screenshots not only with notes, but also with shapes such as arrows, text boxes or a magnifying glass. Similar to the Mac, you can also use a signature as part of the annotation. Depending on how you take a screenshot, the system will either redirect you to a window with annotations, or the image will appear in a reduced version in the lower left corner of the screen. You can annotate this preview by tapping it, swipe left to remove it from the screen, and save it to the photo gallery at the same time.

iPadOS Screenshots

If the application in which you are taking a screenshot supports PDF (for example, the Safari web browser), you can take a PDF version or a screenshot of the entire document in one single step. In addition, the iPadOS operating system gives you a new choice for screenshots, whether you want to save them in the photo gallery or in the Files application.
