After the introduction of the last generation iPod touch, it was assumed that it would be the last device of its kind. Honestly, a touch media player the size of a phone doesn't make much sense in 2019, and everyone prefers to reach for an iPhone straight away. All the more surprising is the information that Apple is actually working on the next generation of this device.

The last update of the iPod touch took place in July 2015, when Apple inserted the Apple A8 chip into it, which, in addition to the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, also powers the iPad Mini 4. The new model should be more focused on playing games and thus serve as a powerful pocket console . In January, Apple applied to the US Patent Office for an extension of the iPod touch trademark, adding the terms "portable game console" and "handheld for playing video games."

In late January, developer Steven Troughton-Smith discovered in iOS 12.2 the identification mark "iPod9,1", which should belong to the upcoming iPod touch. The interesting thing is that, according to his information, even the seventh generation would not have to have Touch ID or Face ID. The end customer will probably have to settle for a password. The main reason why the iPod touch will be limited in this direction is supposed to be the lower price.

Currently, the 32 GB version of the iPod touch can be purchased from Apple's official website for CZK 6, while the larger 090 GB version costs CZK 128. Today, for these prices, you can get, for example, the iPhone 9s, which is more powerful and, above all, it is a full-fledged phone, so the player is meaningless in Apple's product range.

There is also speculation about an increase in display, as the iPod touch is the only device with a 4-inch display after the iPhone SE was discontinued. The new product should see the light of day for the first time at Apple's March conference, which according to previous assumptions should take place in the week of March 18. Alongside the iPod, an updated 9,7-inch iPad, the fifth-generation iPad mini and improved AirPods should also be introduced. Finally, the AirPower wireless charger should also make its debut here.
