The iOS 15 operating system brought iPhones the ability to install Safari extensions, something that macOS has been able to do for some time. For example, you can use these extensions to make shopping easier, block website content, access other apps' features, and much more.

The iOS 15 system itself did not bring many major innovations. The biggest ones are the Focus mode and the SharePlay function, but the Safari web browser has received a major overhaul. The order of opening pages has changed, the URL line has been moved to the bottom edge of the display so that you can operate it more easily with just one hand, and another new feature has been added, which is, of course, the aforementioned option to install various extensions.

Add a Safari extension

  • Go to Settings.
  • Go to menu Safari.
  • choose Extension.
  • Click on the option here Another extension and browse the ones available in the App Store.
  • When you find what you want, click on its price or offer Gain and install it.

However, you can also browse Safari extensions directly in the App Store. Apple sometimes recommends them as part of its offers, however if you go down in the Applications tab all the way down, you'll find the categories here. If you don't have an extension displayed directly among the favorites, just click on the Show all menu and you will already find them here, so you can easily browse them.

Using extensions

Extensions have access to the content of the websites you visit. You can change the scope of this access for individual extensions when kyou stick to the symbol of small and large "A" on the left side of the search box. Here after you choose just that extension, for which you want to set different permissions. But precisely because extensions have access to the content you're viewing, Apple recommends that you keep a regular track of which extensions you're using and familiarize yourself with their features. This is of course for privacy reasons.

Removing extensions

If you decide to no longer use the installed extension, it can of course also be deleted. Because extensions are installed as applications, you can find them on the desktop your device. From there, you can delete them in the classic way, i.e. by holding your finger on the icon and tapping on the option Delete the application.
