Adam Kos The small pond of VOD services available in the Czech Republic is turning into a real pond. After HBO Max, the much-anticipated Disney+ is also going to come to the country, and this will give all streaming platforms a lot of competition. It is Disney+ that has really engaging content that appeals to a wide audience.
Disney+, also referred to as Disney Plus, is a relatively new streaming platform that is riding on the success of its predecessors. It was only created on November 12, 2019, 11 days later than Apple TV+ was launched. The service is owned and managed by Media and Entertainment Distribution, which is a division of The Walt Disney Company, and The Walt Disney Company also includes Hulu (founded in 2007) and ESPN+ (launched in 2018).
Disney shows were originally also available on Netflix, for example, but after the end of the distribution contract in 2019, Disney took advantage of the opportunities offered and just launched its platform with its content. However, the production of exclusive films and television series of the service began already at the end of 2017. The service primarily focuses on the distribution of films and television series produced by Walt Disney Studios and Walt Disney Television, but also offers content from brands owned by it. These are, for example, Star Wars, Marvel, National Geographic or Pixar.

When and for how much
Disney has already officially confirmed that it will start in the Czech Republic 14. June 2022. As in the case of HBO Max, there will be only one subscription option. The service will therefore cost us 199 CZK, which by the way is also the cheapest Netflix plan or HBO Max plan if you miss its 30% off launch event. But you can also pay annually. The annual subscription will thus cost you CZK 1, thanks to which you will save two months and, in theory, you would pay CZK 990 for the service every month.
It's about numbers
And now we don't just mean financial numbers. Disney+ will support high 7 independent profiles under one subscription (including those for children) and a simultaneous stream will be able to run on up to four devices suddenly. Of course, the quality will vary, but the peak will reach the quality of IMAX Enhanced, there should be enough content in 4K with HDR, and Dolby Atmos will not be missing either. The amount of content will be present at least with Czech subtitles, but there will also be dubbing. We still have to wait for the exact proportions.
Disney+ can be watched via a smartphone and tablet with iOS or Android, of course Apple TV, smart TV, or just computers with a web browser, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X or Xbox One consoles are supported through the appropriate application. Czech website Disney + it does not yet provide much information and actually only offers the possibility to register for news.
