After yesterday's presentation of the HomePod mini, the smaller brother of the HomePod smart speaker, one major question began to appear on the Internet, which Apple did not answer at the conference: Will it be possible to connect these two speakers together to create a stereo system? It should be noted that this function is of course available with the original HomePod, when you can buy two of these speakers to create a stereo. The answer to this question is clear and simple. You cannot pair the new HomePod mini with a larger HomePod in a stereo system. On the other hand, if you get two HomePod minis, the stereo system will work.

But that doesn't mean we won't get the option to use the two products at the same time. The good news is that both speakers are room-to-room compatible. For example, if you have a HomePod in the living room and a HomePod mini in the kitchen, you simply need to ask Siri to switch. In this way, the sound will start playing in the room you are currently in, or in the one you choose. A new service is then available on both speakers Apple Intercom. In the case of the smaller HomePod, Intercom is available natively, for the larger HomePod it will come together with a new update, which we should expect no later than November 16. In addition to the Intercom service, the HomePod will gain support for multiple users as well as support for third-party streaming services such as Pandora or Amazon Music.

In addition to HomePod learning basically the same functions as its smaller sibling, Apple will also release another very useful gadget for it in the update. If you own an Apple TV 4K and two HomePods, you'll be able to link them together to create perfect surround sound with your TV. In particular, you can look forward to 5.1, 7.1 and Dolby Atmos, which will please many an audiophile. Of course, you will also be able to connect the HomePod mini to the Apple TV, as the smaller Apple speaker does not have such an advanced speaker system, so it will not support 5.1, 7.1 and Dolby Atmos. If you now have a glimmer of hope that you can at least turn HomePod and HomePod into a mini stereo system through Apple TV, I have bad news in this case as well. Even if you wanted to, you simply cannot connect the HomePod to the HomePod mini, even with the help of Apple TV. However, you can connect two HomePod minis to Apple TV at the same time.

In the American Apple Store, the HomePod mini costs $99, which is about CZK 2400 when converted to Czech crowns. Abroad, it will be possible to pre-order the speaker from November 6, while the first lucky ones should receive it 10 days later, on November 16. In the Czech Republic, however, official support for HomePod is still missing, due to the fact that Siri is not translated into our native language. Those interested in our country will therefore have to wait a little longer before the HomePod mini is offered at Czech retailers.
