Market research by IDC estimated that worldwide sales of the Apple Watch reached 2015 million in the third quarter of 3,9. This made them the second most popular wearable device. Only Fitbit sold more such products, its bracelets were sold by 800 thousand more.

Compared to last quarter, the Watch was a small step forward in terms of sales. Customers were most interested in the cheapest model of this product line, namely the sports version of the Apple Watch Sport. For example, a new operating system could have helped sales Watch 2, which brought major news like better support for third-party apps and pushed the watch a little further.

Fitbit, by comparison, has sold around 4,7 million wristbands. Thus, in the third quarter, it held a 22,2% market share compared to Apple, which is at 18,6%. However, compared to last quarter, Watch sales increased by 3,6 million units, according to IDC.

In third place is China's Xiaomi (3,7 million wearable products sold and a 17,4% share). Garmin (0,9 million, 4,1%) and China's BBK (0,7 million, 3,1%) sell the most wearable products.

According to IDC, around 21 million wearable devices were sold worldwide, which represents an increase of about 197,6% compared to 7,1 million sold products of this type in the same quarter last year. The average price of a smartwatch was around $400, and basic fitness trackers were around $94. China is leading the way here, providing the world with cheaper wearables and becoming the fastest growing market in this area.

However, Apple has not officially confirmed exactly how many of its smartwatches it has sold, as these products are included in the "Other Products" category along with iPods or Apple TV.
