This feature was previously only available in secret conversations, but soon all users of the application will be able to set the time after which they want a sent message, photo, video or attached file to disappear. It can be seconds, hours or even days. The automatic countdown will start the moment the recipient sees the message. Introducing disappearing messages to all conversations will further strengthen Viber's position as the world's most secure communication app.

How to create a disappearing message:

  • Click on the clock icon at the bottom of the chat/conversation and choose how long you want the message to disappear.
  • Write and send a message.

Privacy is very important to Viber. It holds several firsts among communication applications. He was the first to state the possibility delete sent messages in all conversations in 2015, in 2016 it introduced end-to-end conversation encryption, and in 2017 it introduced hidden a secret messages. So, introducing disappearing messages to all conversations is the company's next step in its effort to increase user privacy.

“We're excited to announce the introduction of disappearing messages to all two-user conversations. The disappearing messages were first reported in 2017 as part of "secret" conversations. Since then, it has become evident that a similar feature that ensures secrecy should be part of regular chats. The novelty also includes the fact that when the addressee takes a photo of the screen with the disappearing message, the sender will receive a notification. This is the next step in our journey to become the most secure communication app in the world," said Ofir Eyal, COO of Viber.
