iPhone sales have been stagnating for a long time. It seems that Apple is not expecting a significantly better season this year either. According to the survey, customers are waiting for something other than three camera cameras. Support for 5G networks.

Apple is busy preparing for the launch of new iPhone models. According to all information leaked so far, it will be a direct successor to the current portfolio without significant design changes. The launch of three camera cameras and two-way wireless charging should be groundbreaking. In other words, technology that the competition already has for a long time.

However, according to Piper Jaffray's analysis, this is not a sufficient reason for users to upgrade to the new generation. Most are waiting for a completely different technology, and that is support for fifth generation networks often referred to as 5G.

In the US, construction is already slowly starting with major operators, while Europe is barely starting auctions. This applies especially to the Czech Republic, where we will certainly not have a fifth generation network in the first wave of countries.

No 5G support at all

On the other hand, 5G will not be that fast even in iPhones. This year's models will still rely on Intel modems, so they will still offer "only" LTE. Apple will not be among the first alongside some Android phone manufacturers. iPhones are expected to support 5G next year at the earliest.

The reason is the 5G technology itself. Apple originally wanted to rely solely on Intel and pressured it to quickly begin developing and manufacturing 5G modems. But Qualcomm's head start and decades of development experience it is impossible to skip in a few years. Intel eventually backed out of the deal, and Apple had to settle a dispute with Qualcomm. If he didn't, there might not be 5G in iPhones at all.

The analytical study also highlights that users are still willing to pay a premium price for an Apple smartphone, up to $1. However, the condition would be that it mentions support for fifth generation networks.

The successors of the current trio of iPhone XS, XS Max and XR will therefore have a hard time. Apart from a small group of users who change their devices regularly, the number of those who intend to invest in a new smartphone has fallen again.
